A few more pictures of the downstairs part of the house.
The first view looks upward between the kitchen and sculleries in one direction and the second into a small enclosed courtyard the other way. And finally the sculleries in a small building opposite the kitchen's back door.
And now for my piece de resistance. Can you guess what these particular gates are for.
Dogs or toddlers?
ReplyDeleteYes Dogs. I found it funny because I have gates all over my house to keep the dog confined. Poor old thing is not so very good on stairs and occasionally forgets to ask to go out. So seeing the gates made me feel a sort of kinship with those long ago folks. They had big dogs though. I can imagine they wouldn't want them tromping around on all those priceless carpets and jumping on the furniture. Thanks for your common.
